The BRICS Expert Council–Russia, based at HSE University, was initiated by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Russian Ministry of Finance and established by order of the Government of the Russian Federation. Its purpose is to provide information, analytical, and expert support for Russia's participation in BRICS, particularly for preparing expert events held as part of Russian BRICS Chairship in 2024.

Key tasks:

  • Conducting expert, analytical, and research activities and providing organizational support on relevant political, socio-economic, and humanitarian cooperation issues within BRICS;
  • Facilitating international scientific and expert cooperation on multidisciplinary issues within BRICS;
  • Disseminating the results of the Centre's expert, analytical, and research activities, including through the preparation of scientific reports and articles, organizing and/or participating in reputable scientific and research-to-practice conferences, seminars, and expert round tables;
  • Contributing to the preparation and organization of events such as the BRICS Academic Forum, the BRICS Civil Forum, the BRICS International School, and coordinating activities of the BRICS Think Tank Council;
  • Creating a database of informational materials and publications on topics relevant to the BRICS activities and related issues.

Experts from HSE University took part in the BRICS Academic Forum (FABRICS) held in the capital of Brazil this year. The main theme of the event was to discuss cooperation among countries in the Global South amid geopolitical turbulence and rapid technological change. Academics and experts from BRICS member states and partner nations explored topics such as global healthcare, AI technologies, trade, climate change, and reform of the multilateral global security and governance architecture.

On June 19, the Eurasian Women's Forum hosted a session titled "International Cooperation between Women for Economic Development" as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. This discussion brought together leaders of women's organisations, government officials, business representatives, and experts from Russia, the BRICS nations, APEC, G20, and Africa.

The Green Future Ecological Female Projects Contest has emerged as a dynamic platform for sharing expertise and advancing innovative solutions in sustainable development and green economy. Over 800 applicants from five BRICS nations submitted dozens of unique environmental projects.

On June 16, the BRICS+ Information and Cultural Centre hosted BRICS Day—a major cultural and expert event organised with the participation of TV BRICS International Media Network and the Russian National Public Library for Science and Technology. This special event marked the anniversary of the First BRICS Summit, held on June 16–17, 2009 in Yekaterinburg, where the foundation for the group's partnership was laid.

On May 20, 2025, a meeting of the BRICS Civil Council's Working Group on Health titled "BRICS and Building a Global Health Regime" took place at HSE University. The discussions focused on Brazil's proposals for final recommendations to the leaders of the BRICS nations.

The Annual BRICS Network University Conference showcased the work of the International Thematic Group (ITG) on Economics, jointly coordinated by HSE University and RUDN University. Valeriia Gorbacheva, Deputy Head of BRICS Expert Council-Russia and Head of Multilateral Strategic Projects Office at HSE University, presented the group's key initiatives and outlined upcoming collaborative projects set for implementation by member institutions by the end of this year within the BRICS Network University (NU) framework.

On May 7, 2025, Janja Lula da Silva — First Lady of Brazil and a prominent advocate for sustainable development who initiated the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty — visited HSE University. She held a private meeting with HSE University Rector Nikita Anisimov, where they explored promising avenues for strengthening Russia-Brazil collaboration in science and education.

Due to population aging, many countries aiming for economic prosperity have limited time left to undergo economic transformation, according to the honorary report Narratives Versus Reality on Employment and Demography: How Undermining Institutions Can Push Countries Out of the ‘Narrow Corridor’ by Santosh Mehrotra of the University of Bath. The report was presented at the XXV Yasin (April) International Academic Conference.

The rating employs a comprehensive system of indicators that showcases the strides made in collaboration among member nations across various domains, highlighting key achievements and pinpointing areas that call for deeper engagement.
